An evening at T-Town

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to get out of NYC early and head up to the Valley Preferred Cycling Center aka T-Town for the 25th Annual Keirin Cup. If you've never been to a proper velodrome, I highly recommend getting your butt out to T-Town to check out the action. Friday nights host the World Series of Bicycling an invite only, Pro Men and Womens event with scratch races, madisons, rounds of Sprints and of course the feature race the Keirin.

The energy on the infield is intense and T-Town hosts some serious competition bringing the likes of top US champions and Olympians but also international talent from Poland, Italy, Ireland and Canada. The bike bling is SERIOUS, you could buy a nice house with the amount of carbon fiber in that infield. Check it out...

Colin Prensky is one of if not the only NYC racer who gets the invite to the Friday nights. He sports the Lightwieght Disc and front wheel. I saw tons of bikes, mostly all with discs but not 1 lockring.

Affinity is making a lot of appearances at T-Town and not just from our team mates. I caught this Team Issue Silver Kissena set up by a local Madison and Scratch racer nicely dialed in.

Caught a few of the track specific 3T Sphinx handlebars, they are just crazy looking... for $350.00 you can have a pair too.

Early rounds started and the Pro Men got off to a fast start in the Keirin. A good push is key in this race...

Unfortunately there were a few crashes in the early rounds, Andy Lakatosh got caught up in a tangle after tight sprint finish. Even the pros get involved in senseless crashes this one was after the finish line. Damn that's gotta hurt.

As the early mens rounds were getting heated, the women were getting warmed up for their first rounds. Affinity also proudly sponsors the local T-Town pro racing and development squad Alliance. Thats a good look...

T-Town's track program is alive and well, with a healthy womens program boasting over 20 pro women, and these girls fly!

If you've never seen the chaos and comradery of a madison, thats reason enough to come check out the action. These guys rip and it gets hairy out there with so many guys on the track.

After the Madison final, the guys prepared for the Keirin feature. Its all Cascos helmets and Mavic I/O's wheel sets here, these boys don't play...

The Keirin final boasted the likes of current US Keirin Champ Matt Baranoski, Keirin Carnage legend (sorry Andy once you become an Olympian or Champion you'll get a new title : ) Andy Lakatosh, Kissena Royale Great American Shoot out winner Njisane Phillip, Roberto Chiappa, the Polish Hammer Kamil Kuczynski, Team Canada's Joseph Veloce, New Zealand's Simon Van Velthooven and Bissell Pro Cycling Team's Shane Klein.

The race was intense with a ton of jockeying for position's but the winner was...

Current US Keirin Champ Matt Baranoski! Congrats to Matt and all of the finalists at the 25th annual Kierin Cup. For more info on the Valley Preferred Cycling Center go here. There's only two Friday night races left this season so get out to T-Town for more great action.
