"freestyle" bmx in the 2012 olympics?

According to a press conference held on the 5th of February, Dave Brailsford, British Cycling's performance director announced "It's very strongly rumored that 'park' BMX, or freestyle, will be introduced before the 2012 Olympics". It seems they're interested in adding what they describe as "street" or "freestyle" bmx, the catch is that another cycling event gets the boot. When bmx got the olympic nod in 2008, they did away with the women’s 500m time trial, and Kilo, an event which has been in the summer olympics since its start in 1896. Surprisingly, the press conference came and went with little to no attention in the cycling community, ride UK bmx, and espn mentioned it on there website's but I haven't seen it on any other cycling website or magazine. The legitimacy of bmx is very important, but not at the expense of events like the kilo, or the sacrifice of having to take away other events. we'll see how this plays out. Check out Ride's rendition of the podium...
